I don't have a lot of time, so I'll put off the big topic I was going to touch on for another day. Over the weekend my wife and I were talking; she brought up a message board thread on Snopes.com where someone was talking about "the most ridiculous thing they'd ever heard." This prompted me to consider "the most ridiculous thing" I had ever heard. It wasn't hard...
Many years ago I was leaving the theater with some friends and we were discussing the possibility of a Star Wars Prequel. I would imagine this was still five or six years before Episode 1 came out. And one of my friends said that the reason for the delay was that Lucas was having problems finding financing for the new Star Wars movies. That was the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard. For one, Lucas has more money than many continents, and could easily finance it himself (and I believe he did, in fact).
Secondly, can you think of anyone who, given the opportunity to invest in another Star Wars movie, would turn it down? Even if Lucas offered terms along the lines of give me your money and I'm not going to give it back, there would still be enough people willing to throw their money at the project for it to be made.
Trapped by my own cleverness
